History of the Honour Roll Board

The Friends of Manuka Pool committee is pleased to invite Frances McGee to give a talk on the Honour Roll Board at Manuka Pool on Thursday 18 March 2021 at 6.30 pm in the Press Conference Room at the new Media Centre at Manuka Oval. Frances co-authored (with Nick Swain) a booklet called “Swimmers who gave their lives” commemorating the sacrifice of nine young men who were active members of Canberra Amateur Swimming Club at the Pool in the 1930s and early 1940s. Her talk will cover the biographies of the men and the role of Manuka Pool in the social history of Canberra.

The talk is a free event organised by FoMP and welcomes all Canberrans who are interested in the Manuka Pool history and the stories of early Canberra life. The pool celebrated its 90th birthday in January this year and holds a very special place in the history of early Canberra and its inhabitants during the Depression era and beyond.

There will be a display of Manuka Pool memorabilia in the conference room and attendees are invited to view the display prior to and after the talk which is scheduled to last about one hour including question and answer time.

The event is restricted to 40 guests only and all COVID-19 safety rules will apply as per current ACT Govt regulations for small gatherings. Tickets will be available until 6 pm Thur 18 Mar 21.
